As a Christian housing ministry Habitat for Humanity maintains a unique relationship with churches and members of congregations. In many ways we serve as an extension of the Church – meeting in tangible ways the real needs of men, women, and children in our community. We provide the Church with practical opportunities to further the cause and ministry of Jesus within the community. Many congregations support the work of Housatonic Habitat for Humanity through prayer, volunteering to help build homes, providing support through tithing or mission funds, and house sponsorship.
Congregations that partner with Housatonic Habitat generally find their involvement:
- Provides an external project upon which the people of the church can focus – an exercise which always helps to strengthen congregational passion, unity, and community.
- Allows church leadership to model the biblical call to give ourselves away to the cause of Christ.
At Habitat we really do see ourselves as an extension of the local church – to be the hands and feet of Jesus here in our community, whether by providing help at a work site, in the office, or in the ReStore.
We encourage all faith based groups to help us via regular monthly financial gifts but are more than pleased to receive seasonal gifts like a Christmas Eve offering.
There are numerous ways for groups within your organization to become involved with a Habitat project including fundraising, participation in ceremonies and making or gathering house warming gifts for their Habitat family (e.g. bed quilts for each family member).
Faith-based communities and coalitions of faith-based organizations sponsor homes by providing a combination of direct funding, in-kind donations of materials and services, and volunteer labor.
On occasion, a group (coalition) of congregations join together to build a home in the greater Danbury area. A given coalition might build a house every two or three years.

Opportunities to Speak
We love the opportunity to share the wonderful stories of transformation that occur at Housatonic Habitat. Sam Dobrotka, our Executive Director, is an ordained minister and welcomes the opportunity to speak to church groups: small groups, outreach groups, or the whole congregation via the Sunday sermon.
We also appreciate opportunities to talk to school, business, or other community groups.
Please contact Karen – (203) 744-1340 or
